The parental visit
My parents came up to visit us in Montreal for a week. Our only plan with them was to show them a bunch of different Montreal sites (preferably ones we hadn’t seen yet). The first 2 days they toured around by themselves while Rach and I were working/schooling. Saturday we walked around Old Montreal for pretty much the whole day. We finally tried Schwartz’s smoked meat which both Rach and I were not that impressed with. Rach also got the first picture of me with my beard (since I’ve been to lazy to shave since I’ve been in Montreal).
On Sunday we went out to the Botanical gardens (which Rach and I missed last year). There were some pretty cool bonsai trees. The Chinese and Japanese gardens were by far the best areas:
Since we had access to the insectarium we checked that out too. I like this picture of Rach making a face at one of the beetles:
We went out for food pretty much for every meal while they were here. We went to this place called “L’Avenue” for breakfast that was pretty crazy. The food was good but the bathroom, now that was the cool part. One wall had this entire mural on it but it was all in reverse. On the other wall was a mirror so that when you looked into it the picture was in the proper orientation. We also went to this place called “Baton Rouge” which was like The Keg but for ribs. It would be awesome if we got one in Saskatoon.
After the weekend my parents took our RAV4 up to Quebec City for a couple days. They got back for one more supper where we went out for Korean BBQ (they bring this mini-BBQ thing to the table and you cook the food on your table). The following day they left in the afternoon giving Rachel and I a few hours to get ready for our big New York City trip.
