Our kitchen gave birth

So I was playing some video games and Rach comes yelling that “Something is wrong! Something is wrong!” She is yelling for me to come to the kitchen. I walk into the kitchen and see this:

Birthing in the kitchen

Water from the apartment above us exploded all over in our kitchen.  It was like our roof was giving birth.

Pop

The sad thing was I just just washed all the dishes and now I have to do them again.  Oh and there is a giant bubble in the kitchen too.  Once again, Montreal is to blame.

The week ahead

What have I done the last couple weeks?  Well I did leave the apartment.  I know, crazy.  Rach and I delayed Valentine’s day since there was a storm coming through on the 14th.  We ended up going out on the weekend instead to a Mexican restaurant called “La Fiesta”.  The food was nothing special.  They had some guys playing music but I guess I gave them the stare “I’m not tipping you” so they left us alone.  They did play the Guantanamera song that we heard all the time in Cuba so that was nice.

We made another trip out to Costco but this time instead of getting lost trying to find it (yes, we get lost pretty much every time we go) we decided to print off a map.  When we went to the Costco site we found out there was a Costco that was 10km closer.  I find that every costco is a little different and I doubt I’ll ever find a perfect one.  The one Ottawa I went to had phad thai that was amazing.  The one in Montreal has like 20 different prepared meals (the enchiladas are amazing).  The new one in Montreal that we went to has one of the greatest things of all time.  Sliced cheese.  Imagine one of their big blocks of cheese but precut already.  Now with precut cheese, precut pickles and sandwich meat my lunch prep time has dropped a lot.  Not to mention I don’t even need a knife anymore.   I can’t get over how awesome this is.

Dale‘s fiancee April came up to Montreal this weekend for some architecture competition.  We didn’t actually see her all the much other than Friday when we went out for supper and then to some pub.  As a side story, the pub we went to was messed up.  There was “art” on some of the walls that was quite weird.  We sat by a piece called “The Quilt” which was just pictures of girls boobs.  You didn’t miss much.  There was also drawings of people with their hands cut off and a set of legs with a mouth instead of a hoohoo.  I don’t understand art at all.

Apparently we only have 8 weeks left in Montreal and it looks like we are pretty busy most of the weekends.  This weekend we are going to 300 (hopefully in Imax) and then going sledding outside of Montreal.  After that we have a trip to Ottawa and then some friends coming to visit us for a couple weeks.

Turbo Teen

I was watching Futurama tonight (going through the whole series since I haven’t seen the last couple seasons) and watched the episode where Bender gets turned into a were-car (he transforms into a car each night when he clock resets to 00:00). When he transforms it reminded me of an old cartoon where someone transformed into a car at will. After asking Sean to figure out what it was called he found out the name was Turbo Teen. Do you guys remember this show? It was only on for 13 episodes in 1984. I was pretty happy that the memory of the transformation lived up to my expectations. Check this out…

Awesome. Simply awesome.

Welcome OpenID

I had a slow morning which ended up with me playing around with my blog.  I decided to integrate OpenID into my blog so that everyone with LiveJournal or TypeKey accounts (or any OpenID identity) could just use their existing account when making comments.  If you have no idea what I’m talking about you can continue to use the anonymous commenting system that was their previously.

An update, a tip, and apathy

The Update

We haven’t had any mice in over a month.  At least I haven’t seen any.  This can only mean two things.  Either they are not getting into the apartment anymore or Rachel has taken to eating mice.

Mouse Eater

The Tip

I bought a bunch of triangle buns from Costco (my Costco peeps will know what I’m talking about) back in November.  It’s now February and they are very dried out.  I am unable to bite into them.  Being the cheap ass that I am I refuse to throw them away.  My first attempt was to put the bun in the microwave for a minute and then eat it really fast while it was still hot.  I failed miserably as half way through it felt like I was eating rocks.

My 2nd try was to cut the bun in half (which required a very sharp knife) and then toast it.  This worked out surprisingly well.  I had to toss a bunch of pickles on it but besides that, very edible.

My 3rd and final try worked best.  I sliced the bun up into really thin slices, put it in a frying pan and then added 3 eggs.  The bun slices absorbed all the egg goodness and became super soggy.  Mission accomplished.  How can eating 3 eggs not be healthy for me?

The Apathy

I woke up a little early today.  I dragged my body over the office room and heard some loud ringing sound.  I wasn’t quite sure what it was at first but finally realized it was a fire alarm.  I’m not sure about you guys but I’ve never been in a real fire.  It’s always fire drills.  OMG there is a fire, you better get outside.  Ahhh just kidding, I peed on your chair while you ran outside.  I’ve become completely desensitized to fire alarms.  My first reaction was that someone just wanted to steal my stuff if I was to leave the apartment.  My 2nd reaction was that it seemed like a lot of work to go outside.  Not to mention it would be cold out.

So did I leave the apartment?  Nah.  I figured if the fire came into our apartment I could find an alternative exit.  Instead I sat in the kitchen eating my toast.  It took 30 minutes before someone got the fire alarm turned off.  Besides being super annoying I think that’s all it accomplished.  I did see some suckers standing outside in the cold while the alarm was on.  Apathy (maybe stupidity?) for the win.
