Planning our trip to Montreal

Day 1 – August 17
Departure time: 5am
Distance to travel: 1527KM
Sleeping in: Thunder Bay, ON
Google Map

We have a big first day. The original plan was to go from Saskatoon to Kenora, ON so each day we would drive about 1000KM, however, since the last day we need to be in Montreal in the afternoon so we can meet up with our landlord we need a shorter last day. Solution, drive a lot on the first day. Our first day goal is Thunder Bay, ON. If we feel we can’t make it that far on the first day we can just stay in some small town on highway 17.

Day 2 – August 18
Departure time: 7am
Distance to travel: 1300KM
Sleeping in: Pembroke, ON

A bit shorter day for the 2nd day. I broke it up in two chunks otherwise google maps shows that we should take the north highway which may appear shorter but apparently the highway isn’t as nice or as fast as the southern one.

Day 3 – August 19
Departure time: 9am
Distance to travel: 333KM
Sleeping in: Montreal, QC
Google Map

Nice and short drive for the last day. We want to get to Montreal mid-afternoon so that we don’t have any troubles finding our new apartment and also have plenty of time to contact our landlord and get keys for it. Our apartment is on the 2nd floor and there is no elevator so it will probably take awhile to unload everything and it sure would be nice to do it while there is still light out. Day 4 – August 20 No driving! Our plan is to relax and explore Montreal for a bit. We will probably start finding furniture for the apartment (table, couch, chairs, bed, computer desk). Warren will be in Montreal as well so we will probably try to meet up some place for supper. We will probably have an early night as August 21 to August 31 we are going on our honeymoon out East. We haven’t finalized our plans for that yet but I’ll post once we have discussed it.

Meeting Lake weekend

Another lake picture

Rachel fishing

Rachel and I went up to Meeting Lake for the weekend. Rachel had some troubles finding the cabin which I’m sure she will get into on her blog. We played a lot of Kaiser (Rachel and I lost against my parents and my Dad and I lost against the females). I did however skunk my Dad at cribbage which was a big change from normal. Meeting Lake gets “The Itch” which was suppose to be pretty bad this year since it is so hot out so we didn’t even go swimming or anything. We did try fishing for a few hours but only caught some weeds. On Saturday after my parents and I drove out to a smaller lake in the Meeting Lake area in hopes of canoeing around the lake but once we got close the road was quite impossible to pass in the van. So instead of canoeing we just hiked around for awhile until it got too hot and we packed it in.

Cleaning my sandals

My sandals stink… a lot. I threw my sandals away from last year since they were so gross. I bought these new white sandals this year that looked white for maybe a week. My old cleaning solution, soak the sandals in the sink. My new discovery, take the sandals to the car wash and use the big water wand. Now my sandals are nice and bright again. Tip, remove your foot from the sandal before spraying it with the high pressure water gun.
